Barpark observes Gorkha earthquake memorial day


Kathmandu: The Barpak Sulikot rural municipality in Gorkha today organised a special programme, commemorating the 2015 April 25 earthquake. The quake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale with its epicenter at Barpark had caused a massive loss of lives and property.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, and Minister for Urban Development Sita Gurung were among those attending the event. The ministers were accompanied by home secretary Binod Prakash Singh and secretary at the Ministry of Urban Development, Suresh Acharya, according to rural municipality chair Bishnu Prasad Bhatta.

The Day was observed to create public awareness about possible safety measures during an earthquake, he said.

Barpark was the epicenter of the deadly quake with two major aftershocks that had killed around 9,000 people and leaving more 22,000 injured. (RSS)
