Three major parties agree to forward process to appoint CJ
Kathmandu : An understanding has been reached among top leaders of three political parties and the Speaker to recommend the name for the vacant post of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from a meeting of the Constitutional Council.
The post has remained vacant for a long. An agreement to this effect was reached among Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, former Prime Minister and CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Speaker Devraj Ghimire in the meeting, said NC leader Ramesh Lekhak.
The meeting was held at the Balkot-based residence of Chair Oli today. The Chief Justice would be appointed after conducting a parliamentary hearing on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.
The discussion was also held on the issue of taking ahead the Bills to amend the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Act and the Commission of Investigation on the Enforced Disappeared Persons Act, 2071 BS and Constitutional Council (Function, Duties, Powers and Procedures) Act, 2066 BS in the meeting, he shared.
