Adherence to constitution, constitutional responsibly are guiding principles: Prez Paudel


Kathmandu : President Ram Chandra Paudel has said promotion of national unity, protection of sovereignty, and implementation and protection of the constitution of the country would be his guiding principles.

At a programme organised by President Paudel here today to extend gratitude to the members of the Federal Parliament and Province Assembly after his election to the presidential post, he said he was always ready to participate in a national campaign in order to fulfil the aspiration of sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity following the constitution in letter and spirit while carrying out works, duties and responsibilities of the President.

President Paudel mentioned, “I want to make assure that I will remain aware about the works, duties and rights granted by the constitution to the President as I had got the opportunity to work remaining in the constitution-making process.”

Saying the periodic election was the life force of democracy, he congratulated and thanked all for the completion of the election of local-level, province assembly, federal parliament, and presidential and vice-presidential elections successfully.

“At this moment, I want to extend heartfelt tribute to martyrs and seniors who played a significant role to bring the country to this point. I want to make clear that following and protecting the constitution will be the main responsibility and duty. I am always aware of the behaviours and working style expected by the people from the President”, opined the President.

Stating that the constitution has given unlimited rights to all the people, President Paudel expressed the view that it was the responsibility of all to maintain stability in the country. He stressed that all should be aware that people’s trust and faith not only towards individuals but also towards the institution will be lost if the elected people’s representatives run the activities without following the constitution’s spirit and sentiments.

President Paudel said, “There are many challenges in the country at present. The effect of the economic recession surfacing following the COVID-19 pandemic has started to be seen in Nepal as well. I have felt the need for national consensus and national unity on the issues relating to the management of the transitional justice, economic issues, climate actions to deal with climate changes and to protect the political achievements.”

Paudel cautioned that it was necessary for all of us to be serious towards the possibility of an attack on political achievements if we fail to pay due attention towards optimizing the political achievement for socio-economic transformation.

Stating that the way forward was sustainable peace, development, good governance and economic prosperity, the newly elected President expected the positive role of the federal government, provincial government and province assembly members.

Furthermore, he expressed his confidence that everyone’s attention would be laid towards fulfilling the aspirations and expectations of people by achieving optimum results through coordination among the federal, provincial and local levels as well as the private sector and through the proportional distribution of the obtained results.

Recalling that easy solutions were found through national unity at the distressing time in the past, President Poudel emphasized the need for unity among one and all.

On the occasion, he extended thankfulness to all federal parliament members and province assembly members for electing him as the third President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal in accordance with the Article 62 of the Constitution of Nepal.

Present at the occasion were Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Dev Raj Ghimire, National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Also, in attendance at today’s event were Deputy Prime Minister, ministers, parliamentarians, province assembly members and provincial Chief Ministers among others.
