Vice President’s election: voting concludes
Kathmandu : Voting under the election to the Vice President has concluded. As per the election schedule, the voting that had begun at 10:00 am today at the Federal Parliament Building-based polling centre concluded at 3:00 pm. The election will elect a third Vice President for the State.
There were separate booths for the voting for the Federal Parliament and the Province Assembly members at the Lhotse hall.
A total of 311 federal lawmakers and 518 PA members took part in the voting. There were 332 voters from the Federal Parliament and 550 from the Province level in the Vice President’s election.
According to the Election Commission, it prepares to begin the counting at the same venue after a while and the results will be announced today itself.
Astalaxmi Shakya (Bohara) of the CPN (UML), Mamata Jha of the Janamat Party and Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav of the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal are in the race for the Vice Presidential election.
Federal Parliament (House of Representatives and the National Assembly) and PA members shall elect the Vice President for the nation. The vote weightage of a Federal Parliament member is 79 followed by 48 of a PA member.
According to the Constitution, the functions to be performed by the President shall be
performed by the Vice President during the absence of the President and the term of the Vice President is five years from the date which he or she is so elected. And a person who has already been elected twice as the Vice President shall not become a candidate in the election to the Vice President.RSS
