EC issues election code of conduct for presidential, vice-presidential election


Kathmandu : The Election Commission has decided to issue an election code of conduct-2023 for the election to the post of President and Vice-President.

The election code of conduct will start from March 1-19 in view of the coming presidential and vice-presidential elections.

As per the EC’s decision on January 30, the election to the post of President is taking place on March 9 and that of Vice-President on March 17. There are 882 voters in the election.

Nomination for the election to the presidential post has already been filed on February 25 after establishing an office of the Election Officer and the candidacy could be withdrawn till 4:00 pm today. Similarly, the final name list of candidates would be published today itself.

A press release issued today by EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma Poudel mentioned that the EC issued the Election Code of Conduct in the exercise of the rights granted by Article-22 of the Election Commission Act-2073 for the election.

The same election code of conduct was implemented for the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly on November 20.

As per the EC, the election code of conduct would be implemented for the government and ministers of federal parliament, Province Assembly members, the provincial governments and their ministers, employees of federation, province and local-level, security bodies, civil servants, security personnel, government, semi-government and public organisations and their employees, political parties and their sister organisations, candidates, their representatives, public post holders, media houses, media persons and the voters.
